Sanctuary Zebra Plains, South Luangwa, Zambia
The South Luangwa, Zambia is one of The Luxury Travel Bible's favourite places in Africa, if you are looking for unspoilt and remote, this is it. This is where walking safaris were pioneered and the new tented Sanctuary Zebra Plains perched on a sand bank at the meeting of the Luangwa and Chibembe Rivers is all about getting close to the wildlife (but not too close for comfort). This  seasonal luxury safari camp will open in June with just four traditional tents.

The camp allows a maximum of just six guests, and the focus is on intimate exploration of the South Luangwa and walking in amongst game.  There is a small library and all tents have real beds, mosquito nets, en suite facilities and flush toilets. But remember this is the bush, so let's just explore that 'ensuite' concept.  Sanctuary tells us 'water for al fresco showers is mixed to your preferred temperature by a tent attendant' ; which means people, there is no hot water unless you ask for it. But, hey, the point is that this is a proper camp and you get to see some amazing unspoilt bush with large populations of zebra, elephant, buffalo in true old-safari style. And every year in October at the end of the season the camp - designed to leave the lowest possible carbon footprint - is packed up completely with no trace that it was ever there.

Now where did I put the khakis?
